Mr Lachlan Batty is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon with international sub-specialist training in knee surgery, joint replacement surgery, shoulder surgery and sports medicine.
Lachlan grew up in Melbourne and completed his medical degree at Monash University. He was awarded a full Monash University Scholarship for Excellence. Lachlan undertook his internship and surgical residency at The Alfred Hospital and was selected for specialist orthopaedic training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He was the Dux of his training cohort in the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination.
In pursuit of providing the highest level of care to his patients, Lachlan completed a dedicated sub-specialist knee surgery Fellowship at The Epworth Hospital in Melbourne and was then selected for a further sub-specialist knee and shoulder surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Fowler-Kennedy Sports Medicine clinic in Canada. He has completed robotic joint replacement training in San Francisco, USA. Lachlan is also a highly experienced fracture surgeon having completed an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Western Health. He was in charge of managing the networks fracture clinic and trauma operating theatre.
Lachlan serves on the Young Professionals Taskforce for the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee surgery and Orthopaedic (ISAKOS) and the Patient Education Committee for the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA). He is responsible for training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons at his current public appointments at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Western Health.
Lachlan is regarded as a leading researcher in orthopaedics and sports medicine having authored multiple publications in high impact factor peer-reviewed medical journals and several book chapters. His primary research interests pertain to the knee, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and patient safety. He is currently completing a PhD on optimising outcomes after ACL injuries. With international research collaborations Lachlan not only aims to advance the profession, but also ensure he can employ the latest evidence-based treatment strategies when treating his patients in Melbourne.
Lachlan is a keen runner, basketballer and sailor and enjoys spending time with his young family.
